Some of the most interesting historical place to visit
are all within a very short drive of the villas location, Ephesus,
According to the old legends, was founded by the female warriors known
as the Amazons. The name of the city is thought to have been derived
from "APASAS", the name of a city in the "KINGDOM OF ARZAWA" meaning the
"city of the Mother Goddess". Ephesus was inhabited from the end of the
Bronze Age onwards, but changed its location several times in the course
of its long history in accordance with habits and requirements. House of
the Virgin Mary, the belief that the Virgin Mary had spent her last days
in the vicinity of Ephesus and that she had died there, focused
attention on a nun named Anna Katharina Emmerich who had lived in the
late 18th century (1774-1820). The efforts to find the house were
greatly influenced by her detailed description of the Virgin Mary's
coming to Ephesus, her life and her last home there and the
characteristics of the city although she had never been to Ephesus. The
Cave of Zeus, Surrounded mostly by the olive trees and a great variety
of the colourful wild flowers of the region, pretends to be hidden from
view, serving as a "secret" place. To mythology, Zeus used to swim
inside, with the beautiful girls of the village, hiding from his jealous
wife, Hera. Some of the more practical places are Kipa supermarket
(Tesco) which is approximately 2 miles away.
